English – Once upon a time, there lived a dog in a village. One day, he was very hungry and wandered here and there in search of food. After a while, he found a juicy bone near a butcher’s shop. He was very happy and quickly picked it up in his mouth.

He thought of enjoying the bone in a peaceful place. So, he began to cross a small wooden bridge over a river to reach the other side. As he was walking on the bridge, he looked down and saw his own reflection in the water. But the foolish dog thought it was another dog with a bigger and juicier bone.

The greedy dog wanted that second bone too. Without thinking, he barked loudly to scare the “other dog” and snatch his bone. But the moment he opened his mouth to bark, the bone he had fell from his mouth into the river.

He looked down and saw the bone sinking deep into the water. It was gone. The reflection disappeared too. Now he had nothing. His greed had made him lose the only bone he had. He became sad and walked away with his head down.

From that day, he learned an important lesson: never be greedy. If he had been satisfied with what he had, he would have enjoyed his bone happily.

हिंदी – एक गांव में एक कुत्ता रहता था। एक दिन वह बहुत भूखा था और खाने की तलाश में इधर-उधर घूम रहा था। कुछ देर बाद उसे एक कसाई की दुकान के पास एक रसदार हड्डी मिली। वह बहुत खुश हुआ और तुरंत ही हड्डी को अपने मुँह में दबा लिया।

उसने सोचा कि किसी शांत जगह जाकर आराम से इस हड्डी का आनंद लेगा। इसलिए वह एक नदी के ऊपर बने लकड़ी के पुल से गुजरने लगा ताकि दूसरी तरफ जा सके। जब वह पुल के बीच में पहुँचा, तो उसने नीचे नदी में देखा। वहां उसे पानी में अपनी ही परछाई दिखाई दी।

मूर्ख कुत्ते को लगा कि नीचे एक और कुत्ता है, जिसके पास उससे बड़ी और स्वादिष्ट हड्डी है।

कुत्ता बहुत लालची हो गया। उसने सोचा, “अगर मैं उस कुत्ते की हड्डी भी ले लूं, तो मेरे पास दो हड्डियाँ हो जाएँगी!” यह सोचकर उसने ज़ोर से भौंकने की कोशिश की ताकि दूसरा कुत्ता डर जाए और वह हड्डी छीन ले।

लेकिन जैसे ही उसने मुँह खोला, उसके मुँह की हड्डी नदी में गिर गई। वह नीचे देखने लगा और देखा कि हड्डी पानी में डूब रही है। अब न तो उसे दूसरी हड्डी मिली और न ही अपनी बची।

अब उसके पास कुछ भी नहीं था। लालच की वजह से उसने अपनी हड्डी भी खो दी। वह बहुत दुखी हुआ और सिर झुकाकर वहाँ से चला गया।

उस दिन के बाद उसने एक महत्वपूर्ण सबक सीखा – कभी लालची नहीं बनना चाहिए। अगर वह अपनी हड्डी से संतुष्ट रहता, तो खुशी-खुशी उसका आनंद ले सकता था।
