English – Once upon a time, a dog found a piece of meat. He was very happy and held the meat tightly in his mouth. He wanted to enjoy it alone, so he ran off to find a quiet place.

On the way, he came to a small wooden bridge over a stream. As he was crossing the bridge, he looked down and saw his reflection in the clear water. But the foolish dog thought it was another dog with a bigger piece of meat.

The greedy dog thought, “That dog has a larger piece than mine. If I bark and scare him, I can get his meat too!”

Without thinking twice, the dog barked loudly at his own reflection. But as soon as he opened his mouth, the piece of meat fell out and dropped into the stream below. The water carried it away, and he was left with nothing.

He looked down in shock, realizing what he had done. The other dog was never there—it was only his own reflection. His greed had made him lose the meat he already had. Sad and ashamed, he walked away with an empty stomach.

This story reminds us that greed can make us lose what we already have. If the dog had been content with his piece of meat, he would have enjoyed a good meal. But by trying to grab more, he ended up with nothing.

हिंदी – एक बार की बात है, एक कुत्ते को रास्ते में एक हड्डी पर थोड़ा मांस मिला। वह बहुत खुश हुआ और मांस को अपने मुँह में दबाकर चुपचाप कहीं जाकर खाने के लिए चल पड़ा।

रास्ते में उसे एक छोटी सी लकड़ी की पुलिया मिली, जो एक नाले पर बनी थी। जैसे ही वह पुल पर चढ़ा, उसने नीचे पानी में देखा। पानी एकदम साफ था, जिसमें उसे अपनी ही परछाईं दिखी।

लेकिन मूर्ख कुत्ते ने सोचा कि वह कोई दूसरा कुत्ता है, जिसके मुँह में उससे भी बड़ा मांस का टुकड़ा है।

लालची कुत्ते ने सोचा, “अगर मैं इस कुत्ते को डरा दूँ और उसका मांस छीन लूँ, तो मेरे पास दो टुकड़े हो जाएंगे!”

यह सोचकर वह ज़ोर से भौंकने लगा। लेकिन जैसे ही उसने मुँह खोला, उसके मुँह का मांस पानी में गिर गया और बह गया।

अब उसके पास कुछ भी नहीं था। वह नीचे देखता रहा, लेकिन वहाँ कोई दूसरा कुत्ता नहीं था। वह उसकी अपनी ही परछाईं थी।

कुत्ता बहुत दुखी हुआ। उसे समझ आ गया कि उसकी लालच ने उसे जो था, वह भी छीन लिया। अगर वह संतोष करता और अपना मांस खा लेता, तो भूखा न रह जाता।

यह कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि लालच का नतीजा हमेशा नुकसान होता है। जो हमारे पास है, उसमें खुश रहना चाहिए।
