English – Once upon a time, there was a cap seller who used to travel from village to village selling colorful caps. He carried a basket full of caps on his head and walked long distances under the hot sun.

One day, while passing through a forest, he felt tired and decided to take rest under a big tree. He kept his basket beside him and fell asleep.

As he slept peacefully, some monkeys who lived on the tree saw the basket. They came down, opened it, and took the caps. Each monkey wore a cap and climbed back up the tree.

After some time, the cap seller woke up and was shocked to see his basket empty. He looked up and saw all the monkeys wearing his caps and jumping around the branches.

He tried shouting and scolding them, but the monkeys only copied him. If he waved his hand, they waved their hands too. If he clapped, they clapped.

The cap seller was confused and worried. Then, he got an idea. He took off his own cap and threw it on the ground.

As expected, the monkeys copied him. They removed their caps and threw them to the ground too. Quickly, the cap seller collected all the caps, put them back in the basket, and walked away happily.

He was relieved and also amused by the monkeys’ behavior.

हिंदी – एक समय की बात है, एक टोपीवाला था जो गाँव-गाँव जाकर रंग-बिरंगी टोपियाँ बेचता था। वह अपने सिर पर टोपी से भरी टोकरी रखकर धूप में लंबी दूरी तय करता था।

एक दिन वह जंगल से गुजर रहा था। थककर वह एक बड़े पेड़ के नीचे आराम करने बैठ गया। उसने अपनी टोकरी एक ओर रखी और वहीं सो गया।

पेड़ पर कुछ बंदर रहते थे। उन्होंने टोकरी देखी और शरारत करने नीचे उतर आए। उन्होंने टोकरी से टोपियाँ निकालीं और खुद पहन लीं। फिर सब बंदर पेड़ पर चढ़ गए।

कुछ देर बाद टोपीवाला जागा तो देखा कि उसकी टोकरी खाली है। वह घबरा गया। उसने ऊपर देखा तो सभी बंदर उसकी टोपियाँ पहनकर इधर-उधर कूद रहे थे।

उसने चिल्लाकर बंदरों को डराने की कोशिश की, लेकिन बंदर उसकी नकल करने लगे। वह हाथ हिलाता, तो वे भी हाथ हिलाते। वह ताली बजाता, तो वे भी ताली बजाते।

टोपीवाला हैरान और परेशान हो गया। फिर उसे एक तरकीब सूझी। उसने अपनी खुद की टोपी उतारी और ज़मीन पर फेंक दी।

बंदरों ने उसकी नकल करते हुए अपनी टोपियाँ भी ज़मीन पर फेंक दीं। टोपीवाला झट से उठा, सारी टोपियाँ समेटीं, उन्हें टोकरी में रखा और खुशी-खुशी वहाँ से चला गया।

वह राहत महसूस कर रहा था और बंदरों की नकल देखकर हँस भी रहा था।
