English – Once upon a time, in a small village, lived a Brahmin and his wife. They had a baby boy and also a pet mongoose. The mongoose was loyal, gentle, and loved the baby dearly.

The Brahmin and his wife treated the mongoose like a family member. Every day, when they went out, they left the baby under the mongoose’s care.

One day, the Brahmin’s wife had to go out to the market. Before leaving, she told her husband, “Please watch over the baby. Don’t leave him alone.”

But soon after, the Brahmin was called away on urgent work, and he left the baby under the mongoose’s watch.

While the baby was asleep, a deadly cobra entered the house and slithered toward the cradle. The mongoose saw the snake and immediately sprang into action. After a fierce fight, the mongoose killed the snake, protecting the baby’s life.

Proud of what he had done, the mongoose waited for the Brahmin’s wife to return. He stood at the door, his mouth covered in blood.

When the wife came back and saw the blood on the mongoose’s mouth, she panicked. Without thinking, she screamed, “Oh no! The mongoose has killed my child!” and, in a fit of rage, she struck the mongoose with a heavy pot, killing him instantly.

She rushed inside, only to find her baby safe and sound in the cradle and the dead cobra lying nearby. Realizing her terrible mistake, she broke down in tears.

She cried and cried, mourning the death of the loyal mongoose who had given his life to protect her child.

हिंदी – एक समय की बात है, एक गाँव में एक ब्राह्मण और उसकी पत्नी रहते थे। उनके एक छोटा बच्चा था और साथ ही एक पालतू नेवला भी था। नेवला बहुत वफादार और शांत स्वभाव का था, और बच्चे से बहुत प्यार करता था।

ब्राह्मण और उसकी पत्नी नेवले को परिवार के सदस्य जैसा मानते थे। रोज़ जब वे बाहर जाते, तो वे बच्चे को नेवले की देखभाल में छोड़ देते थे।

एक दिन, ब्राह्मणी को बाज़ार जाना पड़ा। जाते समय उसने ब्राह्मण से कहा, “कृपया बच्चे का ध्यान रखना, उसे अकेला मत छोड़ना।”

लेकिन थोड़ी देर बाद ब्राह्मण को कुछ जरूरी काम आ गया, और वह बच्चे को नेवले के हवाले छोड़कर चला गया।

बच्चा सो रहा था, तभी एक ज़हरीला सांप घर में घुसा और पालने की ओर बढ़ने लगा। नेवले ने सांप को देखा और तुरंत उस पर हमला कर दिया। एक भयंकर लड़ाई के बाद नेवले ने सांप को मार डाला और बच्चे की जान बचा ली।

नेवला अपने किए पर गर्व महसूस कर रहा था और दरवाजे पर खड़ा होकर ब्राह्मणी का इंतज़ार करने लगा। उसके मुंह पर खून लगा हुआ था।

जब ब्राह्मणी लौटी और नेवले के मुंह पर खून देखा, तो वह घबरा गई। बिना सोचे समझे वह चिल्लाई, “हे भगवान! नेवले ने मेरे बच्चे को मार डाला!” और गुस्से में आकर उसने एक भारी बर्तन से नेवले को मार डाला।

वह दौड़कर अंदर गई और देखा कि बच्चा सुरक्षित है और पास में मरा हुआ सांप पड़ा है। उसे अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ और वह फूट-फूटकर रोने लगी।

उसने उस वफादार नेवले को खो दिया जिसने उसके बच्चे की जान बचाई थी।
