English – Once upon a time, a farmer lived in a small village. He was not rich but lived a peaceful life. One day, he bought a hen from the market. To his surprise, the next morning, the hen laid a golden egg.

The farmer was shocked. He thought it must be a miracle. He sold the golden egg in the market and earned a lot of money. The next day, the hen laid another golden egg. This continued every day. Slowly, the farmer became very rich.

He built a big house, bought new clothes, and had everything he needed. But after some time, he grew greedy. He thought, “If the hen lays one golden egg every day, maybe there are many golden eggs inside her. If I cut her open, I can get all the eggs at once.”

His greed made him blind. He didn’t think twice and killed the hen. But when he opened her, he found nothing. There were no golden eggs inside. Now the hen was dead, and there would be no more golden eggs.

The farmer was filled with regret. He had lost the source of his daily wealth because of his greed. He cried, but it was too late. His greed had taken away everything.

This story teaches us that being greedy can ruin what we already have. Patience and contentment lead to lasting success, while greed leads to loss.

हिंदी – एक समय की बात है, एक किसान एक छोटे से गाँव में रहता था। वह अमीर नहीं था, लेकिन शांति से जीवन बिताता था। एक दिन उसने बाजार से एक मुर्गी खरीदी। अगले दिन सुबह, जब वह मुर्गी के पास गया, तो उसने देखा कि मुर्गी ने एक सुनहरा अंडा दिया है।

किसान हैरान रह गया। उसने सोचा यह कोई चमत्कार है। उसने वह अंडा बाजार में बेचा और खूब पैसे कमाए। अगली सुबह भी मुर्गी ने एक और सुनहरा अंडा दिया। ऐसा हर दिन होने लगा। धीरे-धीरे किसान बहुत अमीर हो गया।

उसने एक बड़ा घर बनवाया, अच्छे कपड़े खरीदे और हर सुख-सुविधा का आनंद लेने लगा। लेकिन कुछ समय बाद, वह लालची हो गया। उसने सोचा, “अगर मुर्गी रोज़ एक सुनहरा अंडा देती है, तो उसके पेट में और भी कई अंडे होंगे। क्यों न सब अंडे एक साथ निकाल लूं?”

लालच ने उसकी बुद्धि पर पर्दा डाल दिया। उसने बिना सोचे समझे मुर्गी को मार डाला और उसका पेट चीर दिया। लेकिन अंदर कुछ नहीं था। न कोई अंडा, न कोई सोना – सिर्फ पछतावा।

अब मुर्गी मर चुकी थी, और वह हर दिन मिलने वाला सुनहरा अंडा भी चला गया। किसान दुखी हो गया और पछताने लगा। लेकिन अब कुछ नहीं हो सकता था।

यह कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि लालच के कारण हम अपने पास की चीज़ें भी खो बैठते हैं। जो हमारे पास है, उसमें संतोष रखना ही सबसे बड़ी समझदारी है।
