English – Once upon a time, there lived a tortoise near a pond. He had two geese as his close friends. Every day, they would sit near the pond and talk for hours. The tortoise loved to talk and often went on and on without stopping.

One summer, the pond began to dry up. The geese said, “We must leave and find another pond with enough water. But what about you, dear tortoise?”

The tortoise thought and said, “I want to come with you! But how will I travel? I can’t fly like you.”

The geese came up with an idea. They brought a strong stick and said, “We will hold each end of the stick in our beaks. You hold the middle tightly with your mouth. But remember one thing – don’t open your mouth at all. If you speak or let go, you will fall and hurt yourself badly.”

The tortoise agreed. The geese took off into the sky with the tortoise hanging from the stick. As they flew over a village, people below saw the strange sight and shouted, “Look at that! A tortoise flying in the sky!”

Hearing this, the tortoise became angry and thought, “These people are laughing at me! I must tell them I’m clever too!” And forgetting the warning, he opened his mouth to speak.

As soon as he did, he fell straight down to the ground and died.

The geese were heartbroken but knew it had happened because he couldn’t control his urge to talk.

हिंदी – एक समय की बात है, एक कछुआ एक तालाब के पास रहता था। उसके दो हंस मित्र थे। वे तीनों रोज़ तालाब के किनारे बैठते और घंटों बातें करते। कछुए को बातें करना बहुत पसंद था, और वह बिना रुके बोलता ही रहता था।

एक गर्मी के मौसम में, तालाब सूखने लगा। हंसों ने कहा, “हमें कोई और तालाब ढूँढना होगा जहाँ पानी हो। लेकिन प्रिय मित्र, तुम क्या करोगे?”

कछुए ने सोचा और बोला, “मैं भी तुम्हारे साथ चलना चाहता हूँ! लेकिन मैं उड़ नहीं सकता।”

हंसों को एक उपाय सूझा। वे एक मज़बूत लकड़ी लाए और बोले, “हम लकड़ी के दोनों सिरों को अपनी चोंच से पकड़ेंगे। तुम बीच में लकड़ी को अपने मुँह से कसकर पकड़ना। लेकिन एक बात याद रखना – मुँह बिल्कुल मत खोलना। अगर तुमने मुँह खोला तो तुम नीचे गिर जाओगे और मर भी सकते हो।”

कछुए ने वादा किया। हंसों ने उड़ान भरी और कछुआ लकड़ी के बीच में लटक गया। जब वे एक गाँव के ऊपर से उड़ रहे थे, तो नीचे के लोग आश्चर्य से बोले, “अरे देखो! एक कछुआ आसमान में उड़ रहा है!”

यह सुनकर कछुए को गुस्सा आया। उसने सोचा, “ये लोग मेरा मज़ाक उड़ा रहे हैं। मुझे भी इन्हें जवाब देना चाहिए।” और जैसे ही वह कुछ बोलने के लिए मुँह खोलने लगा, वह लकड़ी छोड़ बैठा।

कछुआ सीधा ज़मीन पर गिरा और मर गया।

हंस बहुत दुखी हुए, लेकिन उन्हें पता था कि यह सब कछुए की बातूनी आदत की वजह से हुआ।
