Translation Exercise - 17
Near a forest stood a temple where a gentle, kind elephant lived. He was the temple’s elephant, loved by all. One day, a hungry stray dog wandered into the temple and ate a little from the elephant’s food. Instead of chasing him away, the elephant let him stay. Slowly, the dog started coming daily. He would sit beside the elephant, nibble a bit of food, and play with his trunk. A deep friendship grew between them. They were happiest in each other’s company. One day, some people took the dog away to the city. When the elephant didn’t find his friend, he grew sad. He stopped eating, playing, or moving. The priests and caretakers couldn’t understand what was wrong. Eventually, the dog’s new owner heard about the elephant’s sorrow and decided to return the dog. As soon as the dog reached the temple, the elephant trumpeted loudly in joy and waved his trunk. The dog ran and curled around the elephant’s legs. They were together again. From that day, no one dared to separate them again.
